Cat6 Cable Specifications and Standards

Plenum vs. Non-Plenum Cat6 Cables

Plenum Cat6 cables are designed for use in air handling spaces, such as ceilings and plenums. They are coated with a special fire-retardant material to meet building codes. Non-plenum Cat6 cables are not fire-retardant and should not be used in air handling spaces.

Uses of Cat6 Network Cables

– Gigabit Ethernet networks: Cat6 cables can support Gigabit Ethernet speeds (1000 Mbps) over distances of up to 100 meters.

– Power over Ethernet (PoE): Cat6 cables can carry both data and power, enabling the connection of PoE devices such as IP phones and security cameras.

– Home networking: Cat6 cables are used to connect computers, routers, switches, and other devices in home networks.

– Commercial and industrial environments: Cat6 cables are used in commercial and industrial environments to support high-speed data transmission and connectivity.
