Different types of network cables have different maximum lengths. For example, Cat5e cables have a maximum length of 100 meters, while Cat6 cables have a maximum length of 55 meters.

3. Signal loss

As the length of a network cable increases, signal loss becomes more pronounced. This is because the electrical signals traveling through the cable lose energy over distance. For gigabit networks, it’s important to minimize signal loss to ensure optimal performance.

For distances over 55 meters, you should use a fiber optic cable. Fiber optic cables transmit data using light, which is not affected by distance or interference.
